THE RIGHT TO PEACEFUL ASSEMBLY
CAWB legally maintains a peaceful 24 hour a day, seven days a week presence in a very small section of Thompson Square.
This assembly is permitted under Part 4 of the Summary Offences Act 1988, which is an Act with respect to conduct in public and other places.
Approval for CAWB's ongoing presence in Thompson Square is managed by the NSW Police.
The CAWB presence in Thompson Square is further protected under the implied freedom of political communication (including non-verbal communication) as outlined in the Australian Constitution, which serves to restrict legislative regulation.
CAWB is an incorporated community organisation, and upholds a relationship of mutual co-operation with the Hawkesbury LAC and the New South Wales police force generally.
