Media Release By David Shoebridge

14 November 2013
The NSW Upper House today ordered the government to produce papers relating to the planned replacement of the Windsor Bridge and the associated destruction of part of historic Thompson Square. This order will require the Department of Planning, the Minister for Planning and the Premier to produce a range of papers and communications relating to the Windsor Bridge Replacement Project.
Greens MP and Heritage Spokesperson David Shoebridge said:
“There are many serious questions about why the Government continues to push ahead with the plans for the replacement of Windsor Bridge and the destruction of the historic Thompson Square.
“The people of Windsor have been asking for answers regarding this project since the day the Government announced it.
“This project clearly goes against the wishes of many in the local community, and yet the Government appears single-minded in its approach.
“It is hoped that the documents produced in response to this order will shed some light on how and why the Government has been pushing a project that will do so much damage to Australia’s oldest public square.
“This project is a direct threat to a precious part of our history, and the people of NSW have the right to know what documents and papers the key decision makers have seen,” Mr Shoebridge said.
